Construction is set to commence on a pivotal new phase of Dubai’s road network infrastructure: a strategic "loop tunnel" designed to seamlessly connect the Infinity Bridge ramp to Al Khaleej Street. This development is a crucial component of the Road and Transport Authority's (RTA) massive Al Shindagha Corridor improvement project, aiming to dramatically streamline traffic flow in one of the emirate's oldest and busiest districts.
The upcoming construction falls under Phase 2D of the Al Shindagha Corridor. The new tunnel is engineered to facilitate free-flowing traffic, specifically catering to vehicles descending from the Infinity Bridge and heading towards Al Mamzar. By creating this direct link, the project eliminates the bottlenecks often associated with surface-level intersections in the Deira and Bur Dubai areas.
The specifications of the project are designed for high volume. Once operational, the loop tunnel is expected to accommodate a capacity of approximately 13,000 passengers/vehicles daily. This addition is vital for the overarching goal of the corridor project, which seeks to reduce travel time across the 13km stretch from 104 minutes to just 16 minutes by 2027.
This tunnel is just one piece of a Dh5.3 billion mega-project. The Al Shindagha Corridor is the largest road network project currently under execution by the RTA. It encompasses 15 intersections and spans key localities including Dubai Islands, Dubai Waterfront, and Al Mamzar. The completion of the Infinity Bridge was a major milestone, and this new tunnel will maximize the bridge's utility by ensuring that traffic feeding into and out of it moves without interruption.
With the population of the area projected to grow significantly, this infrastructure upgrade is a proactive measure to handle future density. It represents the RTA’s commitment to modernizing Dubai’s transport backbone to match its rapid urban expansion.
